Crawl, slither and creep your way to
OMSI’s Reptile and Amphibian Show on
Labor Day Weekend in the OMSI Auditorium
and Classroom 1. With nearly 200 assorted
animals, it’s one of the largest reptile and
amphibian shows in the Pacific Northwest.
Check out a live animal demo, get “handson”
in the special reptile handling area, and
learn from adult and youth experts.
We will need many volunteers each day to
help with customer service for the huge crowds
that are expected.

This volunteer position builds components and assemblies for interactive exhibits, such as Brain Teasers, and assists OMSI employees with exhibit production.

Science Store Demonstration Volunteer
The Science Store Demonstration Volunteer will demonstrate science store products to OMSI visitors onthe weekends. OMSI's Science Store is a fabulous repository of science learning fun, filled with shelf after shelf of educational, entertaining science products you can take home.

Museum Host Volunteer
The Museum Host Volunteer is responsible for providing great customer service to museum visitors. The Museum Host moves through all areas of the museum and assists visitors by answering questions, giving directions, maintaining a safe environment, and assisting with problem solving. This person wears a button that says “Ask Me”.

Bilingual Spanish Lunch Facilitator Volunteer
Spanish Lunch is an informal, hour-long, weekly session for OMSI staff and volunteers who wish to improve their Spanish speaking skills. OMSI seeks a native Spanish speaker (bilingual English-Spanish) with direct teaching experience to plan activities for and lead these weekly sessions.

Visitor Services Greeter
The goal of Visitor Services is to provide OMSI's visitors with friendly, professional service in a fast-paced environment. Volunteers will often be involved in visitor interaction: welcoming and greeting visitors, taking tickets, and queuing submarine tours. Other duties may include work in the OMNIMAX, the Planetarium, and other locations throughout the museum.

Submarine Tour Guide
The USS Blueback is a diesel-electric submarine of the Barbel class, launched in 1959. It was one of the first subs to have a “teardrop-shaped” hull, and it was the last non-nuclear submarine in the U.S. Navy, decommissioned in 1990. It was brought to OMSI in 1994 and is maintained entirely by volunteers. The Blueback is open for organized tours during daylight hours when OMSI is open.

Featured Exhibits Hall Interpreter
Volunteers in the Featured Exhibits Hall share science in the context of a regularly changing exhibit. Volunteers interact with visitors through science demonstrations, activities and answering questions. Because of the nature of the hall, duties may vary considerably.

Vernier Technology Lab Volunteer
The Vernier Technology Lab features a variety of units on different aspects of technology, including Security, Biomedical, Robots and Computers, Communications, and Household Technology. The units rotate frequently, so that each time visitors come to OMSI, they will find something new to do in the lab. From taking apart everyday appliances to exploring the inside of a computer, volunteers help visitors understand how technology works!

Volunteer Educator- Early Childhood Education
Science Playground and Discovery Lab are OMSI's areas where young children are able to learn and explore in fun, educational settings. Volunteers assist parents and children in experiencing the activities and exhibits, assist staff in the development and maintenance of the space, and help to ensure the safety of our youngest visitors and their families.

Life Science Volunteer Educator
Volunteers in Life Science invite visitors to explore the nature of human growth and development, the structure and function of the human body, and learn about the comparative anatomy and adaptations of the diverse group of animals living in the lab. These animals are reptiles, insects, amphibians, and rats.

The Chemistry Lab is where visitors wear goggles and may perform hands on, wet chemistry activities, view displays, and observe chemistry demonstrations. The volunteer assists with laboratory management and inquiry-based teaching.

The Evaluation & Visitor Studies Division seeks a volunteer to assist with evaluation projects. Tasks will vary and may include web-based research, data management, possible data collection, and general office duties. This is an ongoing position and would involve working in the Evaluation & Visitor Studies department for a four-hour shift once a week at a set time.
